Conor McGregor Faces New Civil Lawsuit Over Alleged Sexual Battery During NBA Finals

Conor McGregor facing a civil lawsuit accusing him of sexual battery during the 2023 NBA Finals, with the plaintiff seeking damages of over $75,000.

Mixed martial arts fighter Conor McGregor is facing a fresh civil lawsuit in the United States, with allegations of sexual battery during the 2023 NBA Finals in Miami. The lawsuit, filed Tuesday in the US District Court for the Southern District of Florida, accuses McGregor of assaulting a woman, identified as Jane Doe, on June 9, 2023, during Game 4 of the Finals between the Miami Heat and the Denver Nuggets.

Allegations Detailed in Lawsuit

The plaintiff, a 49-year-old senior Wall Street vice president, alleges she was led to a men’s bathroom at the Kesaya Center by one of McGregor’s acquaintances, where the MMA fighter is accused of sexually assaulting her inside a toilet stall. The lawsuit also names the operators of the Kesaya Center, alleging they failed to protect her and continued to serve McGregor alcohol despite him being “intoxicated and out of control.”

According to the lawsuit, Kesaya Center staff and security allegedly prevented the plaintiff’s friend from entering the stall to assist her. Jane Doe claims McGregor “intentionally engaged in unlawful sexual contact… without her consent.”

Legal Developments and Statements

Police initially investigated the incident, but the Miami-Dade State Attorney declined to press criminal charges. A closeout memo cited by CNN explained that witnesses, including security staff, observed no “signs of distress” from the plaintiff and noted that she returned to her seat to socialize with McGregor. Authorities concluded they “would not be able to satisfy (the) burden of proof beyond a reasonable doubt.”

In response to the new lawsuit, McGregor’s attorney, Barbara Llanes, stated, “After a thorough investigation at the time, the State’s Attorney concluded that there was no case to pursue. Almost two years and at least three lawyers later, the plaintiff has a new false story. We are confident that this case, too, will be dismissed.”

Plaintiff’s attorney, James Dunn said his client’s primary motivation is to “raise awareness and encourage others to report sexual assault.” He added, “My client has thought long and hard about the decision to pursue this civil case and is fearful of the effect it may have on her job on Wall Street.”

McGregor’s Role at the Event

McGregor attended the game in a promotional capacity, participating in a skit with the Heat’s mascot, Burnie. During the act, McGregor punched the man inside the costume, causing injuries that required hospitalization. After the incident, McGregor returned to a VIP area where he allegedly met the plaintiff.

This is not the first time McGregor has faced such allegations. In November 2024, a Dublin civil court awarded €248,603.60 ($257,000) in damages to Nikita Hand, who claimed McGregor raped her in a hotel in 2018. McGregor, who argued the encounter was consensual, has vowed to appeal that verdict.

The Miami Heat and Basketball Properties LLC, which operates the Kesaya Center, has declined to comment on the litigation. The plaintiff is seeking compensatory damages of more than $75,000 in this latest case.
