OpenAI CEO Sam Altman Accused of Sexual Abuse by Sister; Family Issues Response

Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI and a prominent figure in the tech industry, is facing serious allegations from his estranged younger sister, Ann Altman. On Monday, Ann Altman filed a lawsuit accusing her brother of childhood sexual abuse, sparking widespread attention and controversy.

According to the complaint, Ann Altman has alleged that the abuse began in the 1990s when she was only three years old and continued into the 2000s. She has also claimed that Sam Altman, who is nine years her senior, groomed and manipulated her into believing that the sexual acts were her idea. The lawsuit states that the alleged abuse resulted in post-traumatic stress disorder, physical injuries, and a loss of enjoyment in life due to emotional trauma.

“At all times relevant herein, Defendant, Sam Altman, groomed and manipulated Plaintiff, Ann Altman, into believing the aforementioned sexual acts were her idea, despite the fact she was under the age of five years old when the sexual abuse began, and Defendant was nearly a teenager,” the complaint reads.

Ann Altman is seeking damages exceeding $75,000 in addition to legal fees. The lawsuit also describes the long-term psychological and physical impacts she claims to have endured as a result of the alleged abuse.

Family Response

In response to the lawsuit, Sam Altman and his family issued a public statement on Tuesday denying the accusations. The statement, signed by their mother, Connie, and younger brothers, Max and Jack, expressed concern for Ann Altman’s well-being and described her as facing ongoing mental health challenges.

“Our family loves Annie and is very concerned about her well-being. Caring for a family member who faces mental health challenges is very difficult,” the statement reads. “Over the years, we've tried in many ways to support Annie and help her find stability, following professional advice on how to be supportive without enabling harmful behaviors.”

The family also claimed that they have provided monthly financial support to Ann Altman and have offered additional assistance, such as purchasing a home through a trust to ensure her stability. Despite these efforts, they allege that Ann Altman has continued to demand more money and has made false claims against the family, including the current lawsuit.

“In this vein, Annie has made deeply hurtful and entirely untrue claims about our family, especially Sam,” the statement continues. “We've chosen not to respond publicly out of respect for her privacy and our own. However, she has now taken legal action against Sam, and we feel we have no choice but to address this.”

Social Media and Background

The lawsuit follows previous allegations Ann Altman has made on social media, where she accused her brothers of sexual, physical, and emotional abuse. The family’s statement described these claims as untrue but refrained from addressing them publicly until now.

Notably, Ann Altman had previously aired her allegations on the social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter. In November 2021, she claimed, “I experienced sexual, physical, emotional, verbal, financial, and technological abuse from my biological siblings, mostly Sam Altman and some from Jack Altman.”
